New WinFF website and wiki

It took me 4 days just to setup a simple website with serverside includes on zope. I don't think i ever used a more difficult cms, but it's free hosting, so i shouldn't complain.

The new web site is made to be light weight. It is also more directed towards users than developers. I am going to keep using the google code project more for them and more for users.

You  can see the new site at

The new public editable wiki is up at

Not a lot on it yet, but hopefully more soon.

Thanks again to Paul for the free hosting.

1.5 million WinFF Downloads

WinFF reached 1.5 million official downloads. That includes binaries from Google Code,, and That number does not include source and documentation downloads or installs from the repositories and other sites.

Even Google can't keep everything.

Google code has policy on it's open source hosting that you can't delete prior versions of the downloads. It's great idea to archive open source code for ever, but even with strict policies they can't afford to keep doing it.

Officially in Debian

Monster 15 pound catfish

my firend Jim caught this fish on a nite i didn't make it out. Damn the luck.

WinFF bug

After months of looking for why winff would launch the console window and crash, I finally had the opportunity to use a computer it was crashing on. It has to do with punctuation in the windows username. The user name that i found that broke it was "Jim & Kay".  So, the application data path would be "C:documents and settingjim & kayapplication datawinff"

Even though it was contained in quotes cmde.exe still did not like it.

For the moment. If it doesn't work, there is not a lot to do until i figure out how to fix it.

Government Conspiracy

I was reading about how the anthrax letters case from 9/11.

How does a crazy scientist at a top military lab, that the government says acted alone to inspire fear of anthrax so that his work could continue, know to have have his anthrax letters ready to go on the same day that muslim terrorist attack the World Trade Center?

So he had all his stuff ready and perfectly preserved and was waiting for an oppertunity? Please.

According to the Attorney General, he was spouting muslim themes just days before 9/11. So how did he know?

and all this happened on the same day that to two airplanes smashed two buildings that fell symetricly straight down.

We may never know the truth, but we can be certain that we don't know it.

What does it mean to be a philosopher? Does it mean you have to be a genius? Does it mean you have to be university professor?

According to Merriam-Webster's definition: 1 a: a person who seeks wisdom or enlightenment

According to Plato, all it requires a love of learning.

What does it mean to love to learn?

It could be as simple as loving to try new foods or new card games, but as far as spirituality, it means a lot more.

Loving to learn means learning to love to make mistakes. By making mistakes, we learn. Every mistake we make makes us smarter. In the words of Nietzsche, "That which does not kill me, makes me stronger"

Loving to learn also requires an open mind. The Idea that we can change our beliefs, discarding harmful beliefs and incorporating good beliefs as we go through our lives.  We will never know everything, but we can learn more than we know now.

WinFF 0.42

After a couple months of nothing, I finally got WinFF 0.42 out. This is a bug fix release and a few new languages. It should be a pretty stable release.

Thursday, June 5, 2008

We caught a dozen 3-7 lbs catfish last night. It was a perfect night, perfect weather. Even seen a decent size falling star. Could not have asked for a better night at the lake.

WinFF 0.4

Yesterday, I put winff o.4.

Finally I sat down update some long needed changes to building the ffmpeg command line.

It also includes some other languages. I put 0.4 with still a lot of quirks in the languages. The translators really need the release to be able to translate it correctly. I have not translated the windows installer yet, but it should becoming shortly.

The presets now have a category added to them. It should make digging through them a lot easier.

I added an audio channels option. (ac)

I also added shutdown on finish. There are a lot of problems with windows shutting down that beyond my control. Of course linux works perfectly.

Neuros OSD

I got a Neuros OSD a couple days ago. It's a pretty cool little box.

I am changing my site over to wordpress. Joomla just pukes too often. Too much processor, database connections, etc...
