Hello Kalex and Paul,
Problem has been solved. According to Packman support I'd to change GTK styles. I've changed GTK styles in KDE from QtCurve to Clear Looks and WinFF is working fine now. Thank you for your interest and co-operation.
Kind regards, Willem.

Problem has been solved.
Nice.

According to Packman support I'd to change GTK styles. I've changed GTK styles in KDE from QtCurve to Clear Looks and WinFF is working fine now.
Except that we (or better to say: BiggMatt and Istoff) now could try and figure out why Winff crashes on QtCurve. I would say that it should never crash (maybe not work, but that is different. The strange thing is, in Ubuntu 9.10 with QtCurve in KDE my winff does not crash, although maybe I have to test with Winff 1.1.1.

Thank you for your interest and co-operation.
No problem.

EDIT: I removed (because still unsure): I will file a bug report (http://code.google.com/p/winff/issues/list)

Paul,
That's true. WinFF should not crash with Qtcurve. Somewhere on this same bugs report forum I read that the same error occurred in Kubuntu. Succes with finding out what's wrong actually.

Indeed, we already have a bug for it. http://code.google.com/p/winff/issues/detail?id=55 Unfortunately I can NOT reproduce this on my system (Kubuntu 9.10).

@kalex77: if you now change back to Qtcurve, does WinFF crash again? Or was it because the system was new? Any options set or unset that might make a difference? What is the version of the package that contains /usr/lib/kde4/kstyle_qtcurve_config.so and /usr/lib/kde4/plugins/styles/qtcurve.so (My version is 0.69.1)

Hi paul,

Smiley you probably mean "@Willem"

I'm the curious one with the virtual machine.
...I installed KDE (additionally) and changed window manager to KDM.

It is reproducible, winff crashes with qtcurve-gtk2 on Opensuse 11.2.
And it's not about the KDE qtcurve, but actually the GTK2 qtcurve.
Remember, there was no problem at all on the same virtual machine with Gnome. And there was nothing removed, only added (KDE).

Default package: qtcurve-gtk2-0.68.0-2.2.i586.rpm
I also tried qtcurve-gtk2-0.68.0-44.4.i586.rpm from GNOME:Factory repo, but the same error occurs, when using qtcurve as GTK-style in KDE.
Version 0.69.1 is not available for Opensuse yet, at least I didn't find it.

I also made a call with strace (it is a segmentation fault that causes the crash), but it is of course much too big to post it here (+15MB).
You may download it from here, if you like: http://spielwiese.la-evento.com/forwinff/
I will leave it there for a week or so.

To all the other Opensuse 11.2 users with KDE and a crashing winff: change GTK-style in KDE to clearlooks as it was suggested by Packman support and everthing is fine. (It is done with "configure desktop").

You're right

I downloaded it. I suspect it is /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/libqtcurve.so which on Ubuntu 9.10 is from version 0.69.1, so maybe it is already fixed in a newer version. At least, that would explain why I can not reproduce. At least that would mean it is most likely a bug in the library and winff has nothing to do with it (just causing it to crash).

Thanks for investigating.

For those interested in the qtcurve bug, we found the bug and solution (although it did not get implemented yet) for the Ubuntu version: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk2-engines-qtcurve/+bug/528872
